I am brand new to the site and the hobby but i am already looking forward to this. It is a great chance to get people doing a new tree and people like me to get started take risks etc. Maybe monthly pic post to show proggression. As this could really help teach and perhaps keep people interested.

It wold be easier to judge if we TAKE monthly pictures, but publish them as a series at the end of the contest so the judges can see progress.

I'm in. Just post the rules when they are settled on. Just to be clear, nursery stock does NOT include bonsai nursery stock. Is that correct? It must be from a general nursery or home and garden center.

Sounds like fun.

I wish you all luck in fighting for second place. lol

I'm in. just define the rules. imo, exception of pretrained bonsai stock must be occur. just simple (or more complicated as the 50$ limit wides the range) nursery stock...
my 2 cents, criss

You could do it now if you wanted too. Just keep your receipts and don't work on the tree yet except for repotting if it's suitable to repot at this time.

I wonder where I have filed that receipt for that tree I bought in 2003?

Joe and I will go over the rules and come up with some more straight-forward rules for people to read over before we make them final. Just give us till after the Holidays please. :)

Yes, please. In fact we might give it a few weeks after that to get over the Christmas present bonsai question rush that we always get. Hopefully many of you who have now been around a while will help out with that.

As far as I'm concerned, you can take all time you need. No need to feel rushed or forced or anything. The competitions are a very nice bonus but not the most important thing on this forum and it's not that we're paying you for your work here. (If we did, I would demand a competition within a week! ;) .)
